Why does Tia Bertha think that Gabi did not have sex on prom night?

Tia Bertha thinks Gabi did not have sex on prom night because Gabi left the unopened box of condoms in Tia Bertha's purse with a note that said she had not needed them after all. Gabi did actually have sex, but Martin had condoms they used.
