• When the eyases are five weeks old, they are the size of their parents and begin to explore the world around them and to fly small distances.

• In “The Wilderness Tests the Eyases,” Drum, Lady, and Duchess begin exploring further from the nest. They are now too hostile to Frightful and Chup for them to remain in the nest so the parents perch in trees above.

• Once the eyases learn to find food on their own, they depart the area.
