Who is Gwen the Fair from Freak the Mighty and what is their importance?

Max is in love when his beautiful new neighbor, Gwen, moves in. She also happens to be Freak's mother. Freak calls her lovely mother Gwen the Fair because she reminds him of Guinevere of Camelot.
