The man in the poem casts off his possessions and gets rid of his old life because he wants to live as a wild man of the woods. He calls his old possessions 'empty husks' and goes in search of a new home, suggesting that he is sick of his old life and finds no fulfillment in it anymore. He also says he will tell the wind his name but no-one else and that he will learn a new language that has nothing to do with words. This suggests that he finds no pleasure in the world of men anymore and does not want to be around people. He wants to be free and to live without rules.
