Eddie Barrow helps Miss Corvier when she is weak and asks him to bring her raw meat. Although he is disturbed by the fact that she eats the meat raw and lets the blood drip onto her bed, he thinks that she must need the meat to help with her health. He does not think she is evil, and feels pity for her. When he finds the half eaten cat he is horrified and kills it, and Miss Corvier tells him she needs her meat. She is very pathetic, and Eddie seems to feel guilty and at the same time responsible for her. It is likely that he agreed to help her out, then became drawn in under her power. Now it seems as though he wants to leave but cannot. Either Miss Corvier has some kind of supernatural power over him, or he feels as though he is responsible for keeping her alive and is too guilty or scared to leave her.
