Why are the machines interested in the narrator?

The machines are interested in the narrator because he seems different from all the other humans. The other humans never question their world, but the narrator has always known that there is something more to existence, and something not quite right with the world. When the reality glitches happen, the narrator seems more aware of them than other humans, and remembers them after they have been fixed. He becomes so aware of the constructed reality around him that he begins to experience a kind of déjà vu and knows what will happen before it does.
