This story deals with many common elements of vampire stories. 'The Magician' deals with the classic idea of the evil vampire and his supernatural servant. 'The Wheel of Fortune' deals with the modern idea of the evil vampire, who eats people and thinks it is a game or a joke. 'The Fool,' 'Temperance,' 'The Sun,' and 'The World' describe the modern idea of the tortured vampire who doesn't necessarily want to hurt humans, and believes that he or she lives a cursed life. 'The Priestess' references real people who believe they are vampires, as well as the modern phenomenon of the popularity of vampire TV and movies.
