Amelia is a sympathetic character because she is brave and has to face so many horrible things. Rather than break down or give up, she carries on, and manages to get the better of the ghouls. In the last section, she is making toast for her husband, who seems to take her for granted as he would any other household object. She is upset and thinks about how she does not love him anymore. However, she does not tell him this or stand up for herself, but starts crying instead. This does not seem to fit with the character of Amelia in the other sections. She was brave and strong-willed in those, but seems a little pathetic here. The Amelia in the fantastical 'real life' sections is more likable than the realistic 'fantasy' Amelia.
