Miss Finch's wish does seem to have been granted by the cabinet. She told the narrator that she is sad that all the extinct creatures of the past have gone out of the world. She would loved to have seen them, and talks passionately about Smilodons. She says that there is no hidden place where they might be found as in The Lost World novel. She seems to be disappointed that she is living in a time when everything has been discovered and there are no mysteries left. She also seems to find it hard to interact with other people and would prefer to be with animals. In the ninth room Miss Finch has become a jungle woman who has two Smilodons of her own. She is like a character from The Lost World, experiencing things she had not thought possible. She seems at ease and confident. The cabinet has definitely granted her wish, but it is not clear whether Miss Finch would have wanted it granted in quite this way. Perhaps, this is a case of being careful about what you wish for.
