Scheherazade needs to tell stories to save her life. She tells a little of the story, then leaves it on a cliffhanger so that her husband will long to know what happens next and so not kill her. At each cliffhanger, Scheherazade does not know how she will resume the story, and does not appear to make up the whole story in advance. Her daily activities, usually consisting of going to the bazaar, give her new ideas to put into her stories, but she does not actually plan them in advance.
