Describe the character of Shadow in 'The Monarch of the Glen.'

Shadow is a very big, strong man, but he is not naturally violent. He is compassionate, and resents being pulled into the party guests' plans to pit him against the bald man. Instead of killing the bald man, he rescues him from the party and returns him to his mother. He recognizes that although the bald man is technically a monster, it is the ordinary humans at the party who are the real monsters.
