What lessons does Lewis learn from his father as a young boy?

As a young boy, Lewis learns lessons from his father that are designed to build character. When the recoil of a .45-caliber pistol accidentally blackens Lewis' eye, the young boy learns that he should not cry in front of other men. He also learns to complete tasks when his father assists him in completing the next shot with the same pistol.
