What are Eben's characteristics?

Eben is young, innocent, and naive. He believes the American army is fighting for freedom, but that they were not fighting for freedom for the blacks. Eben doesn't see a problem with ownership, something that severs his friendship with Curzon. He is brave and willing to stand up for his beliefs, as shown in his defense of the washerwoman who stole food from the camp.
