Who is Princess from Fog Magic and what is their importance?

Princess is a large gray cat. Greta first encounters Princess in Blue Cove, and it is the cat that leads Greta to the Morrill house. For her twelfth birthday, Laura gives Greta one of Princess' kittens as a gift.
