Who is Leah Cornwall from Fog Magic and what is their importance?

Leah Cornwall is Captain Cornwall's wife. After her husband dies at sea of yellow fever, Leah takes over command of the ship. She insists on bringing her husband's body back home so that he can have a Christian burial.
