How do the men on the Emmeretta require the captain's body to be taken back to Blue Cove?

They sew his body up in sailcloth and tie it into the ship's longboat. This longboat is then tied behind the big ship and towed home. The men do this so that they won't be afraid of contracting yellow fever from the captain.
