In "Sometimes a Dream Needs a Push," why is the narrator so nervous about his dad getting involved with his team?

The narrator feels the distance between he and his father, and he seems to sense that his father is disappointed by the fact that he will never be the kind of basketball player his father was. His father seems to mumble a lot and never to be completely happy. The narrator seems worried, then, that his father may somehow interfere with his desire to play basketball.
