In "Secret Samantha," how and why must Secret Santa change?

Miss Lee tells the class that apparently the school's administration is unhappy with Secret Santa since "not everybody celebrates Christmas" (72). Rather than cancel the event, Miss Lee has decided to change the game to "Secret Sharer." Henceforth, all the elves will now be called "ninjas" (73).
