As the uncle goes on, the cousins become more and more impatient with what they see as holes in the story. They seem to recognize that it is simply being made up as the uncle goes along and try to call him on it. Little Cindy, for instance, insists on knowing what happened to Bigfoot in the end. Keith points out that the Chukmas could not have simply escaped because Bigfoot had totaled their car earlier in the story. He is also troubled by the fact that later hikers and campers would have been confused by how the Bohpoli's had changed the park signs. In each case, Uncle Kenneth hastily makes up an answer. In the end, however, the questions overwhelm him so much that he simply ends the story: "He took a deep breath and bellowed, 'The END!'" (119).
