Flush Chapter 9: According to Paine, why did he escape from jail?

Paine took the opportunity to escape because he had essentially been silenced in jail. Unable to conduct interviews that would forward his cause, he took the chance to escape when it presented itself... there was no reason to be in jail if it didn't help the cause.
