What does Blaze believe she hears outside her apartment? What makes her realize she is wrong?

Blaze initially thinks she hears a seagull cry, although they are a rarity in her part of Mission Valley. When she opens her door, she hears the cry again and realizes it is not a gull, and the cry is coming from down in the stairwell.
