Why does Juli take her chicken eggs to school and what does she do with them after they hatch?

On the day the chicks start to peck through their shells, Juli takes the incubator and all her charts to school. She does not want to miss any of the chicks as they hatch. After the science fair when all the chicks are hatched, Juli and her dad build a lean-to chicken coop so she can continue to raise them.
