Why does Juli stay up in the tree one day instead of getting on the bus?

Juli is up in the tree the day the men come with buzz saws. Bryce got on the school bus with the other kids and left Juli behind in the tree. Bryce is sad when Bryce gets off the bus that afternoon and see the men cutting down the tree.
