What happens that Juli gets embarrassed in front of Bryce one day?

Juli finds the tree particularly lucky the day she sees a blue and white kite up in the sycamore tree. She climbs up to rescue it and is thrilled to see Bryce looking up from the ground. It is his kite! She is embarrassed when she crawls down only to find out that the whole seat of her pants are ripped open by a branch.
