How does Tokarczuk present the theme of being present within the vignette entitled “Irkutsk-Moscow”?

In the vignette entitled “Irkutsk-Moscow,” a plane takes off at eight in the morning from Irkutsk, and flies west to Moscow. Because of the time zone changes, it lands at eight in the morning as well, though the flight had lasted several hours. The passengers remain in “a great, peaceful Now, vast as Siberia itself” (225). Being present is therefore shown to be a difficult goal to achieve unless the circumstances are fortuitous.
