What does Frannie say about her hair and her mother's one attempt to change it?

Frannie says that her hair is "regular." Once her mother had used heat to straighten Frannie's hair but she says that when she looked at it in the mirror, she hadn't felt like herself. She'd never again tried to tame it and says she lets it do whatever it wants.
