Who is Woody Wakatsuki from Farewell to Manzanar and what is their importance?

Woody is the third Wakatsuki child. Woody represents a father figue to Jeanne. He takes care of the family when Papa is detained for a year at Fort Lincoln. He does join the American army out of a desperation to belong to the country.
