Mr. Badger asks Mr. Fox if all the stealing he does bothers him. Mr. Fox finds the idea ridiculous, saying that he does not know a single person in their right mind who would not "swipe a few chickens if his children were starving to death" (58). He adds that Boggis, Bunce, and Bean are trying to kill the animals and that they, however, have no intention of returning the violent intentions. In this way, the passage serves to depict the mutability of moral structures in society.
