In the story, Family Ties, the various family members all antagonize one another to a certain degree. Catherine sees her mother, her husband, and son as antagonists; Catherine's son sees his mother as the antagonist; Severina, Catherine's mother, is an antagonist to both her daughter and son-in-law; and Tony, Catherine's husband, views his mother-in-law and her disapproval as the antagonist.
