Mack is the third of the four non-black characters whose conflict takes focus in Act Two, and into Act Three. Again, there is no specific description of the character, but his dialogue suggests that he is somewhat more intellectual than the other three. This does not prevent him from being just as racist in his perceptions of, and comments about, the black Act One characters and about black Americans in general. When he appears in Act Three, his portrayal of a black character (Erika) is perhaps the most flamboyant of those offered by the non-black "black" characters, and is perhaps the most extreme example of how black identity is taken over and reshaped by the perceptions and needs of non-blacks, most notably whites.
