Why does Montag say that men like Captain Beatty are afraid of people like Clarisse and the woman who burned in the fire?

Montag says that Captain Beatty is unable to understand people who would willingly sacrifice themselves for ideas.... which frightens him because although he can burn books, he cannot burn ideas.
