Fahrenheit 451

2. What is the theme of the book?

In other words, what is the main idea (the recurring point the author is trying to make)? Sometimes you can get ideas about the theme from the title of a book. To figure out the theme, you'll need to look at the characters, events, action, and setting of the story.

Important themes presented in the story, Fahrenheit 451, include independent versus controlled thought, the value of courage, and the human capacity for self-limitation. Each of these themes are covered in detail in BookRags' study guide for the unit.
