What metaphors are used in Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell?

The paintings of the sunset and lakes are a metaphor for finding the small details in a case. Wallander's father paints the same scene over and over, a sunset over a lake in autumn. The only thing that changes is that sometimes there is a grouse in the picture and sometimes there isn't.
