How are Kendra's parents described in the novel, Fablehaven?

Kendra's parents appear only in the beginning and at the end of the novel. Kendra's father is the son of Grandma and Grandpa, but he does not know the truth about the Preserve. They do not seem like the kind of people who would believe or understand about the Preserve.
