Who is Sherriff Peters from Everything on a Waffle and what is their importance?

Although he is only a minor character, Sherriff Peters plays an important role in Primrose's story. He is the first adult to respond to her question about believing in something without evidence (i.e., faith) with an affirmation - in other words, he's experienced what she's experiencing and believes she's right to believe and act the way she does. In doing so, he supports her emotional independence.
