What happens when the visitors arrive in “Menteuse”?

When the doorbell rings, Madeline, her mother, and Carla all freeze because no one ever visits. It turns out to be Olly and his sister Kara delivering a Bundt cake, which Madeline's mother refuses with little explanation. She also turns them away when they request Madeline.
