Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan

Reread page 51. Why does Abuelita give the crocheting to Esperanza? How does Esperanza show she still is not ready to face the situation?

Abuelita gives Esperanza the crocheting as a remembrance of her, and as a way to distract her while she is waiting for Abuelita to join her and Mama.

Esperanza shows that she still isn't ready to face the situation when she misinterprets the "poor box". (pg 52)
