Who is King Matfei from Enchantment and what is their importance?

King Matfei is Katerina's father. He doen't like the rule that the kingdom is inherited through lineage and would have preferred to be a knight. The King believes that Ivan is a trick cast by the evil witch, and he tells his head knight to kill him after the wedding. He regrets this command after his tongue is shriveled.
