Who is Esther Smetski from Enchantment and what is their importance?

Esther Smetski is Ivan's mother. She learned magic from her mother and later from Baba Tila, a woman in Kiev while still a young woman. Esther later discovers that these powers are strong, and she protects Ivan and Katerina from Baba Yaga when she comes to America to kill Ivan.
