What difficulties does Ella encounter in her sewing lesson?

Ella attends a sewing lesson but the Sewing Mistress does not realize that Ella doesn't even know how to thread a needle. Ella receives help from a nice girl named Areida, but when the Sewing Mistress sees that she has made only three awkward stitches in an hour she becomes angry and sends Ella to bed without supper. Ella is defiant and says she is not hungry anyway, to which the Sewing Mistress says she will miss breakfast as well.
