Who is Mr. Leroy from Elijah of Buxton and what is their importance?

Mr. Leroy is a member of the Elgin settlement. He is a hard-working men, who has dedicated himself to earning enough money to buy his family out of slavery. Unfortunately, the Preacher steals his money, and Mr. Leroy, a sickly man, dies before ever seeing his family again.
