Elijah of Buxton

I'm not sure what you mean about reputation, but Elijah was known for being the first baby born free in the Elgin Settlement. He also gained a reputation when as an infant, he vomited on Frederick Douglass' while Douglass was tossing him around in the midst of a speech. The story of this incident has been hilariously embellished over the years by the town folk, leaving Elijah with a reputation not only for his status of the first free-born child in Elgin, but for this embarrassing mishap, as well.
