In Eclipse, Bella gets to see first hand what newborn vampires are like. They are more animal than human, with a thirst for blood that drives them crazy. Most of them have incredible strength, more than mature vampires, and they can be a danger to others and themselves if they don't have some sort of guidance. Bella is worried that during her transformation that she will turn out like that, unable to be with anyone or be normal.
