Comment on setting

The novel is set in the small community of Forks, Washington. Forks is a quiet community where it rains a majority of the year, creating an ideal setting for the vampires who are unable to move around in sunlight without drawing attention to themselves because of what the sunlight does to their skin. For this reason, a family of vampires called the Cullens have settled in the area and one of them, Edward, has fallen in love with the daughter of the local sheriff.
