How is Bishop's Orphanage described in the novel, Echo?

The orphanage is described as a horrible place, where the director cares only about making money. There are separate dormitories for the younger boys and the older boys, and Mike learns that the director is going to send the younger boys to a state facility because she can make money by hiring the older boys out as laborers.
