What is the importance of Milan in the novel, Easy Beauty?

Milan is the city in Italy where Chloé is meant to travel at the beginning of the memoir. This is indeed the location where the Beyoncé concert is being held. Before going to Milan, however, Chloé makes an impromptu stopover in Rome. Once she does finally get to Milan, she discovers a transformative experience. Although she at first tries to perceive the city through the eyes of the other tourists, by the end of the trip, she learns how to regard the place via her own lens.
