Because the author writes Easy Beauty from her own first person point of view, her tone is inherently open and raw, confessional and vulnerable. Over the course of the memoir, however, Chloé’s tone evolves in accordance with the ways in which her perception evolves. Therefore, as she becomes more open to the way she needs to change, her narrative voice and style open in turn. Chloé has admitted throughout the memoir that she has a tendency to see herself as superior to others, a habit which is begotten of self-protectiveness (142). However, by the end of the memoir, Chloé has largely discarded this view of herself. Rather than assuming that she has the authority over any one experience or idea, she leaves more room for negative capability, for questioning, and for learning.
