Flynn is a precocious young laborer in the colony who develops a fixation on attempting to coordinate an escape. Although Flynn is kind and entertaining, he lacks a certain seriousness, and the other boys mock him for his insistence that the Native population will take him in as one of them if he learns their language well enough. Flynn ultimately gets his wish and escapes with Tony, Cuffee, and Lydia, but is caught by Dick Hughes and remanded to service in the colony.
