How does the author use foreshadowing in Durango Street?

Alex telling Rufus that one fight only leads to another foreshadows the response to Rufus’ plan for revenge. Both Alex and Rufus know there can be no peaceful end to the situation, and yet, Rufus knows he cannot let the Gassers get away with hurting his sister.
