What relationship does Edric, the Guild Steersman, have with the spice?

Edric is constantly exposed to the spice. He needs it in order to perform his function as a Steersman, as the spice grants him powers of prescience. Edric eats, drinks, and is constantly submerged in the spice in one form or another.
